2023 Year in Review!!!
Its the most Wonderful time of the Year!! (well actually that time has passed and now its just the beginning of a New Year, again!) Welcome once again to yet another installment of Year in Review. I know, I know how can this continue to go on . . well one day it wont and then what are you going to read? Here we go on another journey together, maybe you were with me, maybe you weren't, the only way to find out is to keep reading. I'll see you at the finish line, and Ready, Set, Go 2023!!!!
January- Early to rise this New Year as I bid my parents farewell and hop in the car with my brother Nick and his dog Sophie. He is gracious enough to drop me off at the airport in Chicago on his long drive back down to Atlanta. Back home in New York and first things first is packing up all the Christmas Decorations. Now its time for The Brewery Bowling League Playoffs at The Gutter!! I meet Jeremy and Vinnie and we represent Five Boroughs Brewery and square off vs The Bronx Brewery. Despite me bowling a 177, a 172 and a 181 in my 3 games, our best collective team score is what matters and unfortunately our 413 wasn't enough to their 426 as we go down in the first round. Oh well always next year, or spring league if it happens. Next up I head out to Red Bowl for my first date of 2023 and honestly first one in quite some time. The date went well overall, despite some differences, but always wondering what comes next, guess time will tell. Back out to LIC where I meet up with Mark, Jeremy, Evan and Marissa at Fifth Hammer before we go bowling at The Gutter for a fun farewell to the bowling league season. Next up I met up with Peter for a game night at his place, which turned into some one on one bro time which I really needed. We had a great conversation about lots of things but I came away with a new mind set and decided it was time to focus on my mental health as well as my physical health. I found myself a therapist shortly there after and start working with her. Next up I meet up with Peter again in Owls Head Park for a catch up/chat and then head out to Crown Heights Brooklyn for a 2nd date with Amanda, that's her name by the way, and again went well. We watched "Babylon" together. Back home and Lauren comes to hang for our first hang of 2023!! Per usual we go to Lock Yard for some hot dogs and beer and catch up time over the weekend. I meet up with Amanda to help her out filming/being the star of a school project while also helping taking down her Christmas decorations. After we head into the city to Bryant Park for some fun doing Bumper Cars on Ice! Yup its a thing and it was hilarious and so much fun!!! Afterward we finished up filming her project, grabbed a quick drink and then went back to my place to close out the month of January.
February- The first day of Feb. I head back into the city to meet up with my coworkers from Five Boroughs as we dine at Bangia in K-town. Immediately after dinner we go to Space for some Karaoke fun, I performed "Flagpole Sitta" as its one of my go to songs. So much fun hanging with the crew (Evan, Jeremy, Trevor, Lem, Dave, ect. ect.) Back to Amanda's I go to spend the weekend with her. We head into the city to Hudson Yards to go check out the Lunar New Year performances while also doing a photography project for one of her assignments. After the cool dragon and ribbon show we headed to Little Spain and sat at the bar for some dinner and sangrias. Before we head home Amanda offered to treat me to one last beer at Break Bar. A bar where you literally drink a beer and then smash your glass in a provided "Break Room." Upon entering the doorman found out it was my first time and gave us a bucket of liquor bottles to add to our "smashing" good time. It was pretty awesome and fun!! Later that week Amanda got a scare involving her mom's health. I went to stay with her and thankfully things were not as severe as they seemed. Next up is Superbowl Weekend!! Lauren comes over on Saturday per usual to help with any odds and ends before the big game. We have some lunch at Lock Yard and gather some last minute items for the game. Mecca, Shannon, Aaron, Alex, Jake, Alex, Jeremy, Kelsey, Alexa, Christine and Amanda were all in attendance for the big game. Before the start though a bunch of us took the Hot Ones Challenge!!! We did all 10 sauces while Mecca asked us questions after each one. (myself, Aaron, Jeremy and Amanda and I guess Jake all made it through all 10 sauces, others also might have but I don't remember, sorry if you made it!) The rest of the time we all enjoyed the game and each others company. We were all kind of rooting for the Eagles but unfortunately they didn't come through. I head over to Argus and meet up with Kimmy, Jared, Donnie, Alejandra, Koji, Roberto, Elvis and Rich to work on some wire gags for an upcoming training. Was fun to see all of them and get on a wire again. Next up I meet with Amanda for some coffee and board games at Squarrel Cafe, she beat me at Scrabble. After our game we went into the city together to meet up with a few of her friends and do karaoke at Sing Sing. We then stopped by Pinks for some tacos only to find their kitchen was under construction so instead we finished the night at Taqueria and headed home. Another week of working at the brewery and training at Argus before yet another weekend of fun. I meet up with Amanda after she gets her hair done at Astor Place Hairstylists and we head to Carmine Street Beers for a couple of adult beverages. While here Amanda and I talked and have decided that we are officially going to be an exclusive couple!! Hooray!! I have a girlfriend again!! After that we met up with some of Amanda's friends for some food at The Village Tavern before we called it a night. After I drop off Amanda for a photo shoot, I drive up to Roscoe New York to spend a nice weekend with Jake! Upon arrival Jake and I head to Bootleggers Alley at the Prohibition Distillery for a tasting and some lunch. After lunch we grab some beers at Roscoe Brewing Company before retiring at Jake's place for some drinks by a crackling fire, like a couple of distinguished gentlemen. The next day Jake and I head to Cafe 43 for some breakfast and then lunch at Upward Brewing Company (which was by far my favorite place) before I hit the road back home. It was a wonderful weekend with an even more wonderful friend! The last day of February I meet up with my wonderful girlfriend Amanda for an impromptu date night. We began at Sweetwater for an app and a cocktail before we went to the Music Hall of Williamsburg for a VIP concert by Manchester Orchestra. It was an incredible acoustic performance and a most memorable night.
March- Welcome to March! After our amazing date night I wake up and Amanda makes me breakfast before I head to the brewery for work, thanks babe! Next up I pick up food from The V Spot for Amanda and I to have some dinner before we head out to Chateau Brooklyn for a Birthday Party. It was animal print themed so Amanda bought me a cool Zebra style shirt to wear as I don't own anything animal print hah. Yet again another wonderful night with my partner dancing and chatting the night away. A personal achievement for me and my running happens as I cross the 5,000 miles run on my app. Pretty crazy considering I've never thought of myself as a "runner." Next up a big curve ball as Amanda gets Covid, as she lives with roommates and I live alone we thought it was best if she stayed with me while she was quarantining. It was lovely having her here for the week and taking care of her recovery. I never got covid while taking care of her either so bonus! Next up is the yearly St. Paddys Day hang! First stop is a fitting for an upcoming episode of Law and Order. Then I meet up with Lauren at her gym as we head into the city for some lunch at Fraunches Tavern. We meet up with Jenna, Jake and Alex and have a wonderful lunch!! Next up we wander around FiDi, get some coffee and win some stuff at a promotional coffee and whiskey truck. Jenna and Lauren depart, and Jake, Alex, Amanda and I grab some drinks at The Cauldron! We then head over to Barcade and finish the evening there. Next up I head out to NJ to do a Pre-Viz fight for a new movie entitled "Y2K." What a super fun fight and concept to be a part of, you will see when the movie comes out. So much fun with the crew getting creative! The next day its off to work on Law and Order, didn't do much of anything as there were technical difficulties with an SUV explosion, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Still a wonderful day on set. Amanda and I finally make it out to Alamo Drafthouse to see Cocaine Bear! It was quite the wonderful date night. I meet up with Lauren at the Gnoccheria in the city to celebrate her Birthday and we go to Ace Bar afterward for some SkeeBall and Big Buck Hunter haha. Next up Amanda and I head out to New Jersey to White Eagle Hall for some Emo Night Live Band Karaoke! No neither of us performed. She got a cool press pass as she was taking photos of the event for an "Adults at Play" project. We went all over the venue and she even made her way up on stage to take pictures while I just watched the fun haha.
April- April begins by meeting up in the city with Jake for his Birthday pub crawl. We start at Crif Dogs. Aaron, Alex, Alex, were with us as well. After that we head to St. Dymphnas and the Doc Holidays. Then Jake, Alex and myself head into Brooklyn to continue to the Birthday fun. We head to The Levee for some drinks and some billiards and Amanda joins in the fun as well! Next we walk over to BK Backyard for some more fun where we randomly run into Adam Shippey. We are also then joined by Lauren! Lastly we walk over to Ako for some sushi! A good day for a good guy! The very next day its time to celebrate my birthday and my amazing GF Amanda made all the arrangements for me. I went into the city for lunch meeting Amanda as we walked to Loreley Beer Garden! Aaron, Alex, Jake, Alex, Jeremy, Kelsey and Evan were all there awaiting my arrival. Jenna and Dan arrived a bit later, but wow what an amazing gathering of the most wonderful people. It truly meant the world to me. After a good German lunch we walked off for what's next, Bowling at The Gutter in Manhattan!! YAY!!! Marissa joined us at bowling and I had the most wonderful time. Before we head home the last of us make a quick stop at The Grand Delancey before Amanda and I hop in a car to call it a night. I cant express what that meant to me to have Amanda plan the whole day for me, it was incredible and I'll never forget it. Next up Amanda and I hit the road for an Easter getaway to Martha's Vineyard!! Unfortunately Amanda was feeling a bit under the weather for the trip but we did our best. We stopped off at the Eugene O'Neil Theater Center, where Amanda attended school, we walked around the campus and she showed me everything. It was pretty awesome! Once we arrive at we have to take the Ferry across to the island and then we check into our AirBnB. Once we get settled in we head out to Lookout Tavern for some Dinner. We also stop at The Ritz for a late night cocktail and a bit of live music. The next day we head to Morning Glory Farm where they have a food truck doing breakfast and it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches we have ever had in our lives!!! Neither of us could stop talking about those breakfast sammies. We tried to check out another farm after this but they were closed. We then headed out to Island Alpaca Farm and omg what a treat this was to see and pet all the alpacas! It was really cool! Next stop was Marthas Vineyard Museum where we learned about the history of the island and the filming of Jaws!! After we stopped off at the Black Dog Tavern for a snack and then walked along the beach skipping stones. We head back to our place and get a tiny bit fancy to go out to a fancy dinner at Bettinis, which was recommend by the food truck guy. It did not disappoint and we both enjoyed our dinner. After dinner we went back to the place, cuddled up and watched Jaws haha, only appropriate. The next day we start with breakfast at Linda Jeans, then visited South Beach where a lot of Jaws was filmed and walked along the beach, it was pretty windy and pretty chilly. We go to Rockfish for lunch and then head out to the other side of the Island to watch the sunset at the Aquinnah Cliffs Overlook! It was very beautiful but VERY cold and windy and Amanda was definitely not feeling very healthy by this point so we stayed as long as we could before we jumped back in the car. In fact Amanda was feeling so bad that we decided we should go to the ER just to be sure but we were both incredibly hungry. As we were driving we passed by State Road Restaurant and decide that we should stop and eat because we wont have much of a chance if we go right to the ER. We walked in and this place was pretty crowded and pretty fancy. They asked if we had a reservation and of course we didn't but thankfully there were 2 seats available at the bar which we took. We had a delicious dinner and met a local thanks to Amanda's stellar social skills. After dinner we decided to just go back to our place and do Easter egg coloring and get some rest. Easter morning we wake up and I make my family's traditional sticky buns and Amanda teaches me how to play egg wars! Basically you each have an egg and you try to hit the other persons egg with your causing it to crack, without cracking your own. I was pretty good at it haha. After our Easter morning fun we gather our things, loaded up the car and headed back to NYC. What a wonderful trip together, aside from Amanda being sick, it was incredible. Back in Brooklyn Amanda and I visit the Prospect Park Farmers Market and take a stroll through the park. Next I meet up with Amanda at Carrols Place for an Alumni Event for University of the Arts. Was funny as I ran into Sean a coworker from the brewery there haha. After the event we went to a party at Danny's (a friend of Amanda's), it was Big Lebowski themed. Next up, after a bite to eat at Greenwood Park, Amanda and I meet up with her friend Kacey for her birthday and her friends, as we go on a night tour of Greenwood Cemetery! It was pretty cool and spooky to wander around the cemetery when the sun went down but was a lot of fun! The next day I meet up with Jeremy and Kelsey and their friends to take in a Brooklyn Cyclones game!! First of the Season! It was loads of fun!! After the game I met up with Amanda and her friends to Celebrate Kacey's birthday some more! The next day Amanda and I go to alphabet city for a balcony party for a friend of hers. It was a pretty cool setup! I head out to Jersey City quick to help out my stunt buddy Devin as she is out of town working on a movie. She needed a smaller human to crawl into her attic to retrieve a security camera for her, which I was happy to help with! No problemo! After I stopped by Aaron's house to just say Hi for a bit! Afterwards I meet up with Amanda at a public Art show that she is doing photos and interviews for. It was pretty cool stuff. Next on the agenda I meet Amanda in the city and we grab a quick drink at Beer Authority before we head to dinner at At Nine. After dinner we go to Theater Row to see an old friend of mine, Dave Droxler, perform in his One Man Off Broadway show Robin and Me. The show was amazing and it was good to see him doing so well! After the show, Amanda treated me to one last drink and glass smash at Break Bar! And thus ends an EVENTFUL April!
May- May begins with a trip to the dentist for a teeth cleaning/checkup. I head into the city and meetup with Amanda at an event she is covering called "Small is Beautiful" (yes its all about me haha) It was an AMAZING exhibit featuring teeny tiny works of art, some on the head of a pencil!! There was even statues in the eye of a needle that the artist had to design between his own heartbeats! It was incredible! I sign up for a Stunt Coordinator class!! Its basically a 10 week online thing where I learn from Brad Martin about the roles and responsibilities of becoming a successful Stunt Coordinator! I head out to NJ to get a sneak preview of my good friends new stunt training facility Seventh Circle Productions owned by Mecca, Mello and Alexa!! It was a great space and loved hanging and working out with Hannah, Aaron, David and more!! Next up more fun with Amanda as we head into Queens to check out the Night Market. Its a super secret event where people design box trucks into unique experiences and we got in for free as we helped out one of the trucks. It was very cool and very creative to see all the things people did with their trucks. I head into the city and meet up with Lilly and Lucey (Amanda's friends) to watch her tell a story for The Moth. Amanda did amazing at telling her story and I was so proud of her. Afterward we found a nearby bar and they had karaoke so of course we had to sing haha. Amanda an I head out to Red Hook Brooklyn and grab some dinner at Boran before we meetup with Aaron and Alex at Mecha Sonic Sessions!! Its a party in a working metal shop with different performances including grinders, power tools and fire and just a very cool overall experience. I start to notice a constant pain in my right hip so I go to urgent care to get it checked out. They referred me to an orthopedic who set me up with physical therapy, so hooray haha. Next I go with Amanda to The Gate where we celebrate her friend Alina's Birthday. It was a good time hanging and meeting people. Amanda and I head into the city again this time for her friend John's Birthday in K-Town. We start with dinner at K-Town Pocha and then a night of Karaoke at Duet 35. What fun was had by all! Next its time for some baseball fun as Amanda and I meetup with Lauren at Coney Island Brewery for a bite to eat before we head into Maimonides Park to watch the Cyclones! The Cyclones won!! We got to watch some fireworks and then the 3 of us got to run the bases after the game!! The next day Amanda and I head out to New Jersey to spend Memorial Weekend at the Mecca's! We had a blast playing games and swimming in the pool and hanging with all the cool people in attendance (Jake, Alex, The Mellos, Travis, Alexa, Christine and many others!) The month ends with my first round of physical therapy so that was interesting haha.
June- June begins with a trip to Broadway with Amanda to see Peter Pan Goes Wrong! We very much enjoyed this silly, wacky and just all around fun show! Next on the agenda Amanda and I hit up The Museum of Failure! It was fun but a tiny bit underwhelming. Next up I do a little acting work as I head in Midtown to portray a Lawyer for a low budget documentary about the Watergate investigation. It was weird but fine haha. After I wrapped I walked outside to discover the apocalypse as Manhattan was covered in an orange smoke from all the wild fires up in Canada. It was surreal! A couple days later Amanda and I drop off my car with Lauren as we head to the airport and fly to Nashville to meet up with my family to celebrate Tia turning 30!! Nick picks us up at the airport while I'm listening in on my stunt coordinator class. We head right from the airport to Tennfold a local brewery where we grab some drinks and food and wait for Tia to arrive. Once Tia arrives we head over to where we will be staying and check out Mothers Ruin for more drinks and my parents meet us there! We get all settled into our VRBO and then head out to dinner at Union Tavern. After dinner we walk around Printers Alley and stumble upon Legendairy Milkshake Bar! So good and such a treat before we call it a night!! The next day we all head downtown and get Brunch at City Taphouse of Nashville. After brunch we stroll through downtown Nashville and grab some drinks and live music at Nudie's Honky Tonk before we do an escape room at The Escape Game!! We were paired with a Mother and Daughter and we went to work escaping. Not only did we escape, but we escaped with 15 minutes and 42 seconds to spare!! After our great escape we head out to Tailgate Brewery for dinner with local beer and pizza before we stroll back to the house! The next morning Amanda and I make breakfast for the family before we load up the car and head to Cascade Hollow Distillery (Formerly George Dickel) We did a tour and a tasting and it was very lovely! On the way back we stopped at Buds and Brews for some grub that uses cannabis infused sauces as part of their food menu. Its a loophole that they can not cook with it but they can offer you sauces, so that was an incredible find and a very cool concept! For dinner we headed out to Chauhan Ale and Masala House where Tia had a connection with the chef. It was a wonderful meal and quite the hook up. Next up is breakfast at The Pancake Pantry and some wandering and shopping in Downtown Nashville. Blaine, Nick and I decided to go up to the Rooftop of Ole Red and have a couple beers while Mom, Amanda and Tia went shopping. After this we walked over to Yee-haw Brewing Company which is also a tasting room for Ole Smokey Moonshine. We were also under the impression that they were having trivia that night but unfortunately that wasn't to be, so we decide to get dinner and drinks here. Next its up bright and early as we load up the car and drive to Bardstown Kentucky to visit Heaven Hill Distillery. It was a very incredible tour and tasting to say the least! After our experience we went to The Old Talbott Tavern for some lunch which this place dates back to the 1700's so that was pretty cool! Once we got back to the house we just had a low key night. The next day we go to The Mockingbird for some brunch, which had cocktails in a bag which was a neat experience. From here we decide to get some exercise and walk around and our first stop was to Third Man Records, a record store owned by Jack White. It was a very cool spot. Then we walked over to Tennessee Brew Works for more local beer and then to New Heights Brewing Company for even more local beer and an insane corndog pop up. I had Fruity Pebbles on my corndog haha. Finally that night we walked over from our house to take in a Nashville Sounds game, the minor league team of the Milwaukee Brewers! It was tons of fun and the Sounds Won!! The next and last full day with the family in Nashville we went to brunch at Butcher & Bee, which Emi Lou, Tia's long time friend joined in the fun. After brunch, per usual its off to another brewery, this time it was Crazy Gnome Brewery, where we tried beer and played Yahtzee! After this we head to yet another Distillery as we check out Corsair! Great stuff here! We even found a cool little strip mall with fun little shops and even a free tasting at a bottle shop!! Our last dinner together brought us to Pearl Diver a very awesome place with fancy cocktails and a very cool outdoor seating area! The next morning Amanda and I make everyone some breakfast before everyone departs and thus ends our family fun. Amanda and I however continue our trip by getting a car and driving to Memphis!! Upon arrival we do a little thrifting and then stop by Sun Studios to get tour tickets before we check into our very awesome loft!! The Sun Studios tour was incredible, and I would highly recommend it. You really do get those butterflies when you stand in the recording studio where so many greats recorded music. It was pretty surreal. After our tour we went to Rendezvous so I could try the infamous Memphis style BBQ. It was ok but not like earth shattering. The restaurant itself though was pretty cool to see! After dinner we headed out to Wise Acre Brewing Company to check out some local music and beer as recommended by our tour guide at Sun Studios. The band was great and Amanda and I really enjoyed this place and even did a little dancing. Finally to cap off the night Amanda and I went to the infamous Peabody Hotel for some cocktails and a small dessert. It was such a cool place!! The next day we grab some quick breakfast at The Memphis Chess Club before we drive down to spend our day at Graceland!! The sheer size of this place was more like a Disneyland without the rides. Walking through the mansion was pretty incredible even though its not as big as you might think. The style and design of each room was simply incredible to see. Overall Amanda and I spent 5 hours walking around the rest of the exhibits and finally the airplane. At the end we were both pretty Elvis'ed out but it was quite the sight to see if you have never been. Afterward we mad a quick thrifting stop before we went to get food at RP Tracks where we both ate our fill. Once full we made a quick stop to check out the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid which was massive, then a quick stop at our loft before we ventured out to Beale Street. Walking there made it quite interesting as we got caught in a huge rain storm!! We wandered around stopping at many spots to check out the live music including Rum Boogie Cafe, Blues Hall Juke Joint, Blues City Cafe and B.B. Kings Blues Club. We enjoyed the drinks and the dancing for sure, even though the music was mostly covers! The next morning its time to head back, but we hopped in the car and went over the bridge to get coffee in Arkansas just to add another state to our journey. It was actually really funny as the coffee spot was inside Southland Casino which was unexpected but hilarious. Once caffeinated we drove back to Nashville to return our car at the airport and then took a quick car ride over to Opryland Hotel, a place I haven't been since High School! it was pretty cool to walk around the hotel with Amanda although after all these years I don't know my way around it anymore haha. After our walk about its back to the airport where we flew to Atlanta, had a layover and then finally made it back to New York! Back to the usual grind of working at the Brewery when we return. My good friend Evan has his last day at Five Boroughs and we all go out to Irish Haven to wish him well! Amanda joined all of us as well and finished the night up at Canal Bar, per usual. Next up Amanda and I get to go check out The Great Gatsby Party in Manhattan! It was quite the immersive and brilliant show!! We both really had a lot of fun with this experience! After the show we went to a rooftop party at Amanda's friend Josh's for some hang time/potluck fun. The next day Amanda and I head into the city for Pride and meet up with her friend Kacey (and a friend of Kacey's) as we march in one of the parades. We wound up at Washington Square Park and Amanda even went in the fountain!! It was a wonderful experience and we finished it off with some food at Top Thai. Finally this month Amanda and I head out to Citi Field to watch The Milwaukee Brewers play The New York Mets! On the way Amanda takes me to Fuskahouse quick to try Bangladeshi food before we get to the park. It was quite delicious! Once we get to the park we meet up with Evan and Marissa (both from Wisconsin) to take in the game. It was a nail biter that came down to the last inning but the Brewers pulled out the Victory! And thus a Victorious June comes to a conclusion!!
July- The beginning of a new month and its on the road with Amanda to drive up to spend a couple days in the Catskills with Jake, Alex and Lauren. We arrive and fire up the grill and eat and drink and set off some fireworks as you do. We also play a rousing game of "What do You Meme." The next day we go check out a small market in town, do a tasting at Do Good Spirits. After some more hanging and another round of grilled food, Amanda and I drive Lauren to Beacon to grab the train back home. Amanda and I then drive up to CoSM Chapel of Sacred Mirrors to check it out. What an amazing display of art, if you haven't been, go check it out!! After our art experience we had dinner at Melzingah Tap House which was a good little find before we checked into a hotel for the night. Next up we met with Amanda's friend Haylee for some coffee at Kitchen & Coffee. Then walked across the street to check out Pillow & Oats Brewing while Amanda got some work done. After we tried to go check out Storm King Art Center, but due to weather and time we just didn't make it, so back to Jake's we went! 4th of July is here and after a rain delay Amanda, Alex, Jake and I all head down to a local fair in Narrowsburg. There was lots of local vendors for food and drinks and music and we just had a blast hanging out. We even did a raffle but unfortunately none of us won haha. After the carnival we drove to Liberty to check out the local fireworks. It was so lovely laying with Amanda and looking up at the fireworks which were so close and right over us. We ended the night at Cabernet Frank's with some karaoke!! Time to depart and head back to Brooklyn, but before we leave Amanda and I stop to do a small hike and see a local waterfall. Back in Brooklyn and I head to Amanda's neighborhood as we got bar hoping to check out some of her favorite local spots and they did not disappoint. Went from Franklin Park, to Altar, to Super Power, to Two Saints and finishing up at a bar next to her apartment. Great spots and great cocktails I must say! I stop by Argus to pick up my harness from Jared and then him and I grab some beers at Three Jolly Pigeons and catch up a bit as it has been a while. Probably since last year. I head into the city to meet up with my good friend Paul! We grab some dinner at Chef Yu and just catch up as we haven't seen each other in a couple years. After the catch up I meet up with Amanda in Madison Square park for a little impromptu hang in the city. Date night is once again upon us as Amanda and I check out the new Indiana Jones movie at Alamo Drafthouse. We both were surprised at how much we enjoyed the film. After the movie we hung in their bar area, House of Wax for a night cap cocktail. The next morning we head over to the Brooklyn Museum to do some Yoga on the Stoop which was my first organized yoga class. It was fun, despite it being very hot and me being one of like 3 guys there haha. After our Yoga session we got to explore the Brooklyn Museum for a bit, which was pretty cool! From there we stopped at a farmers market to pick up some stuff to make our way out to McCarren Park for a Burner get together. We set up a vegan charcuterie in the park which was very popular! I meet up with Aaron in the city as we join the picket line for the SAG/AFTRA strike in front of Netflix. Was cool to be a part of but we just walked in a circle for like 2 hours. After that Aaron and I headed into NJ where we met up with a HUGE gathering of local stunt performers at Supercharged. Its an indoor huge go kart racing facility. The first race I finished in 2nd place, as I have a bit of an advantage being lighter than most racers haha but hey Ill take it racing with a lot of pro drivers. The second race I finished 6th so yeah haha. Afterward Aaron gave me a ride home and we had dinner at The Wicked Monk. Amanda and I head out to Bushwick Brooklyn for a rooftop evening of talent with Lightning Society. Amanda read some poetry which was so incredible and was quite the hit!! Amanda and I hit up Mitr Thai Restuarant before walking over to Time Square to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. We had seats in the 2nd row which made it a little bit difficult to see everything. All in all we were not big fans of the show, so yeah, fair warning haha. I head into the city and meet up with Paul to celebrate his 45th Birthday at Sake Bar Hagi. Was good to celebrate him and see Stephen, Alec and Evelyn as well. After that I met up with Amanda in Brooklyn Bridge park area to walk along the water, it was a perfect night to do so. We even stopped and grabbed a cocktail outdoors with a great view of the city. Amanda and I head out to Rockaway Beach for a burner beach party. We had a blast dancing and walking along the beach and she even taught me how to do a bit of Rope dart!! Amanda and I celebrate 5 months together by getting some drinks and dinner at Delia's, even though they were out of some stuff we wanted, haha oh well. The next weekend Amanda and I head to South Street Seaport for their Beach Fest. It was like big sandboxes with a live DJ, so we had a drink and danced a bit. From there we got some dinner on the Pier at Cobble Fish. Then a cocktail at Watermark before we got caught in the rain on our way to Dead Rabbit to close out the day/nights fun. The next day we went on a bike ride around Prospect Park. It was my first experience on a Citi Bike and first bike ride in a long time, it was quite pleasant! What a wonderful way to end the month.
August- This month starts on the picket line once again for the SAG/AFTRA and WGA Strikes. I head to the Netflix and Warner Bros. buildings in Manhattan and join a HUGE turn out by the NYC Stunt Community. It was incredible to see so many friends and peers walking the picket line! Amanda even joins to take some audio and some pictures of the strike! After a couple hours of walking in a circle Amanda and I join a good number of stunt performers to grab a quick bite to eat at Eataly. Later that night I head to Brooklyn Bridge Park and meet up with Amanda and her friend Royce (from LA) to catch "Movies with a View" They play movies in the park with a view of the skyline behind it, its pretty awesome. We had a little lawn picnic and enjoyed "Goodfellas." Next up Amanda, Royce and I head to Ras Plant Based to grab some Ethiopian Food. (my first time with Ethiopian cuisine and it was very tasty) After dinner we meet up with John and Danny at Montero for a night of karaoke!!! The next day its Bagels and the Farmers Market with Amanda before we head to Williamsburg for some Mini Golf at The Putting Green. It was a very close competition as I took the victory by 2 strokes, 67-69, although she wins for finishing with a 69 haha. After golf we stumbled upon a Mexican speakeasy restaurant called The Cactus Shop and what a wonderful find it was! Small door, opens up into a huge space in the back, it was like the chocolate room in Willy Wonka haha. The food and cocktails were incredible! Amanda and I then head to see a friend of hers, Victoria Vixen, perform in a backyard comedy and burlesque show which supported trans rights. What a wonderful night of fun it was! The crew at Five Boroughs all head out for a team outing to Strong Rope Brewery for some lunch and also to bid farewell to Vinnie who will be relocating to Los Angeles. I finally bring Amanda to Lock Yard to have some lunch! Then we head to Coney Island Brewery and meet up with Lilly for some lunch. Jeremy also joins us a little later and we walk over to take in a Brooklyn Cyclones Game! After the game Amanda, Lilly and I have some fun in Coney Island. We rode the Cyclone and a bunch of other fun rides and had tons of fun!! I met up with Jeremy and Kelsey at Fifth Hammer Brewery for a couple of beers before we go bowling at The Gutter. Jeremy and Kelsey will be leaving New York and moving to Texas so I had to get in some time with them before that happens. The next day Amanda and I load up the car and make the drive upstate to Watkins Glen for some camping! After over 5 hours of driving we arrived, stopped at a local grocery store to load up before we make out way to the campsite. Once we checked in we discovered that someone was already occupying our assigned spot so we got to do a little spot hunting and choose from a few select options. Once we decided on our spot we began setting up our camp for the next few days. Amanda is a pro at he set up for sure! Got the tent setup, our food, and there was a spot for everything! We make a wonderful breakfast before we load up our hiking gear and make our way to hike the state park. It was beautiful to say the least, so many beautiful waterfalls and gorges and just stunning. We spent the whole day exploring before we returned to camp. The next day another camp breakfast and this time we head to Buttermilk Falls for more hiking! Yet again another beautiful hike! After 5 hours of hiking we went to nearby Ithaca and stopped at Liquid State Brewery for some much needed refreshments and pizza! We also played some Jenga!! We then took a small driving and walking tour and Amanda showed me downtown Ithaca before we made our way back to camp. After 3 nights of camping and hiking its time to pack up our campsite as we broke everything down and left not a single trace of our existence! Once our camp site was spic and span we went to Ryan William Vineyard for some lunch and wine tasting before we got on the road to head home. This place was amazing and it over looked Seneca Lake! The wine and food was pretty good as well! Once back home Amanda and I head to Nighthawk in Prospect Park to see Barbie! I laughed my ass off and really enjoyed the movie. Amanda and I head over to Five Boroughs to celebrate Jeremy and Kelsey's last get together before they leave for Texas. It was also the first time Amanda got to see where I work so I gave her the Grand Tour! After a few drinks there we made our way to Wild East Brewery to continue the fun. After which had an emotional farewell to my friends as they start the next chapter of their life together. Love them both so very much and will miss them. Thankfully Jeremy left his water bottle in my car so I got to see him one last time before his departure haha. Thus concludes August as Amanda and I prepare to travel into September!
September- The very first of this month Amanda and I load up the car and drive up to Windham New York for a labor day weekend with burners. (members of The Burning Man community) We arrive at a very large house on a horse ranch, say Hi and select our room and bed. There are about 35 people in attendance for the weekend and Amanda led a game of Zip, Zap, Zop to get the fun started which lasted well into the night as people mingled. The next morning/ afternoon we have a breakfast which lots of people pitched in to help make as feeding 30+ people is very much a chore haha. Amanda and I took a walk on the property to and got to pet the horses. After that we loaded up the car and drove to a nearby park for some hiking and more waterfalls! We checked out Kaaterskill Falls which was quite the hike to get to but well worth it once we made it there. It is actually one of the tallest waterfalls on the East Coast at 260ft!! After the day of hiking it was back to the house to cook dinner for everyone and mingle well into the night. The next day more of the same, as we cook a huge breakfast, then drive out to another waterfall in Thorp Creek for some swimming and hanging. That night we got dressed up and played Frick Frack Blackjack. I provided some whiskey tasting and was making old fashioneds as well. Its basically blackjack where instead of money you bet weird random objects, I was doing quite well up until the last 2 hands where I lost most of the stuff I had won, oh well haha. The next morning we all gathered up our belongings and loaded up the car before our drive home! It was a fun weekend for sure meeting lots of new people! Back home I meet up with Amanda at Iron Chef House for some dinner before we stroll through Brooklyn Bridge Park to see some public art for one of Amanda's school assignments. Amanda and I make our way to Yankee Stadium to see the Brewers beat the Yankees! We sat behind home plate and had a blast as the Brewers destroyed the Yankees 8-2!! The next day I have to go to a fitting for an upcoming film in Greenpoint. After the fitting Amanda and I hit up Eagle Trading Company for some breakfast and then take a ferry ride into Manhattan followed by the crosstown bus to go to the Javits Center for Photofairs. It was lovely walking around and seeing all of the exhibits and we sat in on a couple talks as well. The next day its time to head up to Newburgh to begin production on the movie "Dead Guy." I report to set for day one and meet up with Corey and the cast and crew and my actor Curtis Armstrong whom I will be doubling for the run of the film. The first week of shooting we were working scenes with Michael Shannon and Eva Longoria, but Curtis did most of the work himself. After the first week I drive back down and meet up with Amanda at The Red Pavilion to see her friends band Star Fox and the Fleet! It was a great show, lots of fun! That weekend Amanda and I grab breakfast at The Common in my neighborhood before I bring her back to her place. From there we go pick up her friend Lilly as we drive upstate to Fishkill Farms for a day of Apple Picking!!! It was my first time and a really fun experience. We wandered around for hours filling up our bag with so many different types of apples. We even had lunch and a cider tasting, picked out some pumpkins and did a corn maze! After we are all picked out I drop off Lilly at the train station and Amanda stays with me in my hotel as I have to work again this week. I take Amanda to the train station before I start working on week 2 of filming. Week 2 is night shoots with Rory Culkin and Ashley Reyes. Since its night shoots I go get breakfast on my own as there is a local Perkins here! Wow what a throw back!! This week yet again Curtis is a rock star and doing a lot of the work himself, except for a gag where Rory pulls me out of a chair and I splat on the floor, a few drags and a drop through a door, I took care of those. Later this week Amanda takes the train up to spend some time with me up in Newburgh! I pick her up from the train station and we get dinner at The Wherehouse. A very cool spot with menus printed on a full size newspaper! It was wonderful and so much food! The next day I take Amanda to breakfast at Perkins, because its Perkins, before we make our way to Dia Beacon a local art museum. We looked at everything in the museum before we went to Dennings Point Distillery for a tasting and a cocktail. We ended the night at Newburgh Brewing Company before calling it a night. Amanda heads back home and I meet up with Jake and Alex for the day. We check out Oktoberfest at Newburgh Brewery and then head up to Wappingers Falls for some Hot Pot at KPOT. It was very delicious and so good to see these wonderful humans! Week 3 of filming starts and this week we are working with Luis Guzman and Amaury Nolasco. Elvis joins out little stunt team this week doubling Luis. I had a bit more to do this week from being carried, to falling off a toilet into paint, to falling down some stairs, It was so much fun! The end of the week I drive back down to be with Amanda and thus concludes September.
October- Omg its October!! Ok so I drop Amanda off at a drone flying class, I know super cool right, and then pick her up when its done. We then head into the city for Jared's Surprise 40th Birthday Party at Francis Kite Club. He was very surprised! Was great to see him and Amber, as well as Jenna, Calvin, Evelyn and a bunch of other friends. We didn't stay late as I had to drive back upstate to finish out my gig. Back up in Newburgh and its my final day on set. I do a gag falling flat on my face from my knees a few times to wrap up my final day. I was picture wrapped and there were many kind words said about my performance and followed by a long rousing applause and many hugs. It made me feel so wonderful, especially sharing one last big hug with Curtis. Thanks so much to Corey for the job and a most memorable one at that. I head back home to Brooklyn and back to working at the brewery. I head over to Amanda's and we have a fun little scary movie night with Kacey and Chris, and I see Poltergeist for the very first time! Pretty good, especially the ending! Next Amanda and I catch a ride on the Junxion Bus to head up to the final day of the New York Renaissance Faire!! A merry time was had by all, throwing axes, stars, knives and softballs. Watching Owls and Hawks fly. Watching knights joust and battle to the death. And of course eating fried things! Upon our return, we stop by Amanda's place and gather her things as she is going to stay with me for the week, huzzah!! Evan drops by to say hi and pick up my car as I'm letting him borrow it for the weekend. Friday the 13th Amanda and I head to Rooftop Reds a rooftop vineyard to watch Hocus Pocus! It was very enjoyable and a great spot if you get a chance. Amanda and I wander around my neighborhood and I show her a cool Halloween decorated house before we grab breakfast at Pegasus. Evan stops by to return the car and Amanda and I head to Nitehawk in Williamsburg for a panel at the Brooklyn Horror Fest. Randomly I run into one of my producers, Chadd, from the film I just finished working on and found out about the wrap party the next day. Amanda and I walk around Williamsburg and stop at Grand Ferry Park for a bit and also check out a Halloween pop up store as you do haha. The next day after I finish up at the brewery I head out to Topgolf to join Aaron and Mecca for some fun. Its been a while since I have swung clubs so I had to get the rust off haha but it was a very good time. I then head into the city to The Ace Hotel and celebrate the wrap of the film with the crew. Amanda meets me there as we hang and chat with people for a bit. Off to the picket line I go as we are still on Strike and I walk in a circle for a bit with Lauren and Sam. Another week of brewery work and then back to the picket line for a local Stunt Performers gathering! It was awesome to see so many peers again at the picket line! Amanda comes as well so she can get some interviews for her school project. Next up Amanda and I head to Parklife to grab a bite to eat before we go to Littlefield for a night of comedy and what a funny and full night of comedy it was! So many performers!! Amanda and I take a night to carve our pumpkins for Halloween that we got from apple picking and they both turned out great. Amanda and I get all dressed up in our Halloween Costumes and head to Industry City for the City of Gods Halloween Party. We dressed as characters from the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie! She was Buffy and I was Amilyn (the one armed Paul Reubens Vampire character) What an incredible party it was, and very massive! We did light painting, we got light bath pictures taken, we danced, we played bound twister and even ran into some friends!! The next day we grab some brunch at Hom! Very cute spot in my neighborhood that I have never been to. Aaron drops by and him and I hit up Lock Yard and then just have a good hang watching some silent films! Finally on Halloween Night, Amanda and I head to Nighthawk in Prospect Park to see Nosferatu with a live orchestra accompaniment. Kacey and Chris were there as well as some other friends of Amanda's. The movie was great, it was my first time seeing it.
November- Welcome to November! This month I learn that Coney Island Brewery will be closing its taproom, very sad as I have frequented this place a lot. Amanda and I drive to Coney Island Brewery for their going away party and meet Aaron and Alex there. We get some beers and some food as we say goodbye to the taproom. Upon return from the Brewery I get quite the surprise as my Mom and Blaine are standing at my front door with a new dresser and computer desk that Blaine made for me in his woodshop. I had no idea this was happening and Amanda was in on it, as was my cousin Lisa who convinced me that her and Chris would be staying with me, which turned out to be a ruse. The next day Amanda, Mom, Blaine and I grab breakfast at Bridgeview Diner. We spent a little time relaxing in my apartment before I bring Mom and Blaine up to Five Boroughs Brewery to show them where I have been working for the past few years. Trevor was bartending as we grabbed a drink and I gave them a private tour behind the scenes. That night for dinner we all went to Lock Yard for some hot dogs and drinks before calling it a night. After a day working at the brewery, Mom, Blaine and I head to Ho Brah for dinner as Amanda is in class. The next day working at the Brewery there is an "All Hands" meeting scheduled, which means everyone needs to be there. Once we finished our days work in the meeting we learn that the brewery has been purchased by Smuttynose in New Hampshire. They will be producing our brand/beers there going forward which means the brewery will be shutting down production in Brooklyn. Well that sucks and didn't see that one coming. I come home from work and break the news to Amanda and my parents that in 2 weeks time I will no longer be working at the brewery. That night we all go out to Brooklyn Roots for some Italian and the place did not disappoint! The food was great and the portions were HUGE! The next day the SAG/AFTRA Strike comes to an end as we reach a tentative agreement, well that's good timing in regards to losing my brewery job. I drive my Mom and Blaine out to Coney Island Brewery for lunch and one last LAST stop at the brewery before it closes. After lunch, we walk around Coney Island as they have never been. That night my parents and I grab dinner at Wicked Monk. The following morning my parents get back on the road as Amanda and I say our farewells. It was so incredible to have them here for that surprise visit!! Amanda and I head into the city to meet up with Evan and Marissa to celebrate Evan's Birthday with some bowling at The Gutter followed by some drinks at The Grand Delancy!!! (Those birthday plans sound familiar haha) We had a blast and I got to see some friends I haven't seen in a long time as well (Joel, Max, Verina, Dave and Mark) My hair is getting pretty long again so I get that taken care of with a trip to M&P Haircutters. Well the time has come and I work my very last shift at Five Boroughs Brewery. It was a blast working here for the past 4 years and the perfect side job for me in between my stunt career. The very next morning Amanda and I head to the airport to fly to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving! Blaine picks us up at O'Hare Airport and drives us to pick up Mom from work. We go home and after Amanda gets the grand tour of the house we head out to Duesterbecks for Trivia Night! We went into the final question in 1st Place by 10 points but with our wager in the final question, which we got wrong, we wound up finishing in 8th place! DAMN IT!! The next day we prep and cook for Thanksgiving and then grab dinner at Drafthouse. Thanksgiving is here as we host the Nowak Family (Uncle Mark, Aunt Kim, Aunt Gail and all the cousins, Dan, Lisa and Chris with Cameron, Justin and Josh and my Uncle Aurey) We had a blast and ate a ton but I didn't over do it this year! Next up I go to check out a new Brewery with the Family in Milton called Good Works Brewery who just opened a couple weeks ago. The beer was pretty solid even though they were sold out of a lot of options. Amanda and I go out together for dinner to celebrate our 9 months together at Genisa Wine Bar. The food, the cocktails, everything was awesome and It was quite the lovely date. Next up the family all goes out to breakfast at Milton Family Restaurant before we head to Papa Docs for some Axe Throwing fun! It was so much fun and my Mom even beat me in one of the games!! When we get back Mom and I spend time putting up Christmas lights outside to get ready for Christmas! Amanda and I had so much fun being home but its time to catch our flight bright and early back to New York as Mom and Blaine drop us off at O'Hare. Once back in New York, I drop off Amanda for her Drone Pilots License exam, which she passed by the way!!! I make a stop at Bitter and Esters to pick up some supplies to complete the home brew kit that Amanda got for me, as well as a recipe/grain to make my first home brew. After that Amanda and I pick up a Christmas tree for Amanda's apartment and get that set up. Back in my apartment I adjust to being jobless by setting up my Christmas decorations and brewing my very first home brew beer, I went with a Smoked German Lager as my first beer! It took most of the day to get this done but I definitely learned some things along the way! Hopefully it tastes good!
December- Well its December and you have made it to the last month of the year, the end is near I promise! The 1st of this month is Amanda's Birthday so a very Happy Birthday to her! We spend her day having breakfast, relaxing and decorating her Christmas Tree until Lilly meets us at Amanda's apartment. We load up the car and begin our drive to NJ for a super secret Birthday surprise! After a long drive and tons of traffic we arrive at Medieval Times!!! Amanda was very surprised and very excited. We picked up our VIP lanyards, got our picture taken, grabbed a beverage and took our seats in the front row ready to cheer on the Black and White Knight! Unfortunately he was defeated by the Blue night who went on the be the Victor! Was so much fun though!! Next up I meet up with Jake at Texas Roadhouse in New Jersey before we make our way to Metlife Stadium for some Monday Night Football! My Green Bay Packers are in town to play the Giants! We had seats right on the 20 Yard line on the Packers sideline. There were so many Packer fans in attendance it almost felt like a home game. It was an amazing game that unfortunately did not end in favor of the Packers, as the Giants kicked a field goal as time expired to win the game 24-22. Was still so much fun to hang with Jake. I take a run to Argus and join Stunt Works for some training fun as we put Berto on wires. Then I get to film a fun sword fight scene with Wendy and Alejandra. Was fun to be doing choreo again. I go into the city and drop off Amanda and then get joined by Amanda's friend Kacey in line as we enter the NY Times Building to watch Amanda walk across the stage and get her 2nd Masters in Journalism!! 2 Masters Degrees!! WOOT!! After Amanda's Graduation and small after party Amanda and I walk over to see the tree at Rockefeller!! Tis the Season! We then head down to Union Square to walk around the Holiday Market and we get some amazing Truffle Fries with Honey and Goat Cheese, Yum!!! The next night Amanda and I drive up to Pleasantville to attend the Annual Siverio Stunts Holiday Party! Was so much fun to hang and mingle with all the amazing stunt peers, some of whom I hadn't seen since last years party or longer! I would list everyone by name but we would be here until 2024. Next up its off to the airport bright and early for Amanda and I as we hop on a plane and fly to Milwaukee to go "Home for the Holidays." Blaine picks us up at the airport and we make our way over to the Harley Davidson Museum. It was pretty cool to see all the history and amazing old bikes! After that we went across the street to MOTOR to get lunch before we head back to the airport to pick up Tia. We get Tia loaded up and then drive straight to Duesterbecks for Tuesday night Trivia! Mom and Nick join us as our team, The Stocking Stuffers, is ready to play. Finally we pulled out the Victory and won First Place!!!! Amanda comes down with a bug so lots of tea for her. The next few days is hanging at the house, putting together new puzzles, eating, baking, drinking and just enjoying fun time with the family and the dogs! We do make a stop at Drafthouse for dinner though on one of the nights! The first family Christmas up is the Nowak Christmas as the extended family arrives at the house! Amanda and I are sporting new matching holiday sweatshirts that her cousin made!! We have amazing food done by my cousin Dan's catering company, Tall Guy and a Grill!!! We do our white elephant Christmas exchange which Amanda and I both wound up getting a Gumball Machine (the white elephant theme was the letter G) We even built Gingerbread houses that Amanda brought. After the fun my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Steve come hang with us and we all watch a holiday movie before calling it a night! Christmas Eve is here and we all don our Ugly Sweaters and do more puzzles and cook Christmas Dinner before we open all our presents. Christmas Morning arrives and we all don our Animal Onesies and open our stockings and just have a lazy relaxing day of puzzles and movies. After Christmas we all go to Milton Family Restaurant for a last family Breakfast as Tia, Amanda and I will be traveling home the next day. Up super early (3:30am) we say goodbye to the dogs and Nick and pile in the car to Milwaukee. We say goodbye to Mom and Blaine and make our way into the airport. Amanda and I say goodbye to Tia as we get comfortable for our 6+ hour wait until our flight leaves. We fly to St. Louis and then to New York! It was a very long day of travel as we get back to Amanda's place at around 9:00pm!! Aaron stops by and we chill at my apartment, catch up and watch a movie. He also gets to taste my beer which unfortunately was pretty flat, womp womp. Amanda comes over for New Years as we walk to Bay Ridge Alpine to see Wonka which was very enjoyable by the way, after the movie we walked the Dyker Heights Christmas lights and then went to dinner at Fushimi before hunkering down for the night and ringing in 2024 with some Old Fashioneds! Thus ending 2023!!
Thank you all for joining me in my life in the year 2023! I love and appreciate every single one of you who made it such a spectacular and wonderful year for me! I have learned so much and grown so much this year and look forward to whatever is in store for 2024!!! Cheers!!! Happy New Year!!
